Today, Champagne de Castelnau is the standard bearer of our co-operative, which is equally proud of its origins.

In 1962, a handful of growers determined to control their own destiny, pooled their vineyards and their knowledge to form the Co-opérative Régionale des Vins de Champagne, based in Reims. Today, the company controls 900 hectares in 144 different villages or Crus spread across some of the finest vineyard sites in Champagne, allowing it to make exceptional wines for de Castelnau as the ultimate expression of all its members' constant hard work.

From its cellars in the heart of Reims, Champagne de Castelnau, is fully able to meet its customers' highest expectations and aims to continue to supply a very traditional market of private customers, restaurants and specialist wine wholesalers and retailers.

Now recognised as one of the major producers in champagne, the winery covers 5 hectares with underground cellars on three levels where over 29 million bottles are gently ageing to perfection.

The origins of Champagne de Castelnau go back to 1916.

The brand name was created in honour of General Edouard de Curières de Castelnau, who distinguished himself during the First World War.

The emblem of Champagne de Castelnau (thistles and the motto: "qui s'y frotte s'y pique" "he who rubs them will get pricked") is a reference to this historic connection.

From 1925 onwards for three generations, Champagne de Castelnau belonged to a family from Epernay.

Very much in vogue for much of the 20th century, especially in the 1930's, Champagne de Castelnau appeared on the tables of several royal families as well as the French armed forces throughout the world.

In 2003, the Co-opérative Régionale des Vins de Champagne acquired Champagne de Castelnau, which gave them a presentation worthy of the quality of their wines
